فى قُبلة فى الصحـــراء، نعمل على إيجاد البيئة المحفـزّة للأفــــراد المبدعين، ونسعـى لخلق الدعم عن طريق إيصال المواهــب بالمنتجين والموزعـــين والمهرجــــانات والجمـــهور
نحن نصــب جلّ جهــــدنا على المشـــاريع المقدمـــة تبعــًا لمتطــلباتهــــا؛ فنعمـــل على تيســـير الطريق للمتقــدمين فيما يخـص التمويــــل والدعـــــم التقنى لإنتاج أعمالهــم الســـينمائية، عن طــريق الإرشــــاد، تقــديم الاستشارة، توفير المعامـــل، العلاقـــات المهنية، والإنتـــاج المشــــترك
Our Mission
A Kiss in the Desert is a platform for films and moving image projects.
By offering creative individuals and collectives an inspiring environment in which they can produce and develop their projects, we aim to bring about, through the cinematic experience, a support network based on enduring connections between artists, talents, producers, distributors, festivals, and the various audiences.
We work on a project-based system, where each proposal is followed according to its own characteristics. The planning and strategies are there to offer solutions to the scarcity of funding and technical resources available for young filmmakers, while enhancing the potential of their creative talents and ability to carry out a cinematic project through guidance, mentorship, team consultations, labs, contacts, and co-production partnerships.
قصــــتنا
فى سـنـــة ١٩٢٤، وصل الإسكنـــدريّة الأخَوَان التشـيليّان فلســــطينيّا الأصل إبراهيـــم وبيـــدرو (بـــدر) لامـــا، فى طريقهـــم لبيت لحم، وطاب لهما المقـام فقـــررا الاســـتقرار في المدينـــة. كـــان الأخـــوان مولعـــيْن بالسينمـــا، فقـــررا تأسيـس شـــركة إنتـــاج خاصة بهــم. معـــًا، أنتجا وألّفـــا وأخرجـا الفيلـــم المصـــرىّ الأول، قبلة فى الصحـــراء، فى عام ١٩٢٧. انتقــــدت الصحــــافة آنئـــذ الفيلـــم معلقـــةً:
«الصـــورة الوحيـــدة المصـــريّة فى الفيـــلم هى صــورة الأهرامــات وأبو الهـــول».
وعلى الرغم، فقـد فتح الأخوان الباب على مصراعيه للأجيال اللاحقة من صُنّــاع السينما، عن طريق إتاحـــة المجـــال لتجـــارب الإنتـــاج السينمائى فى الإســكندرية
بعد حوالى قرن من وصــول الأخويـــن للإسكندرية، قررنـــا أن نبدأ مجمــوعـــة لدعـــم جيـــل جديـــد من المواهـــب فى المشهـــد السينمـــائى المستقـــل فى مصر. بوحى من قصة الأخوين لاما، أسسنا قبلة فى الصحـراء. خلفياتنا المختلطة أوحـــت لنا بأن نعيـــد اســتكشـــاف اللغـــة الســــينمائية، والنمـــاذج الإنتاجية بطـــرق جديدة، سعيــًا نحـــو رعـــاية رعيـل جديد من الأصـــوات والأعمـــال المثيـــرة للاهتمـــام

Our Story
In 1924, two Chileans of Palestinian origin, Ibrahim and Pedro “Badr” Lama, stopped in Alexandria on their way to Bethlehem, where they decided to stay. Being fascinated by the cinema, they founded their own production company in the city. The Lama brothers produced, wrote, and directed the first Egyptian feature film, A Kiss in the Desert, and several other titles. The press would criticize their first movie by saying that “the only image that feels Egyptian is that of the Pyramids and the Sphinx.” Nevertheless, and despite the initial foreignness of these young Latin Americans of Arab origin, they opened a gate for generations to come by establishing a space for film production and cinematic experimentation in Alexandria.
Nearly a century after the two Chileans arrived in Alexandria, a group of filmmakers decided to create a collective to support a new generation of talents in the Egyptian cinematic independent scene. Inspired by the story of the Lama brothers, we established A Kiss in the Desert. Our hybrid backgrounds led us to explore the cinematic language and production models in diverse ways, aiming to foster new voices and works with a critical bias that are aesthetically intriguing.

صممت ورشـــة وش وضهـــر لتحفيـــز صنـــاعة السينمـــا الإبداعيـــة، وتشجيـــع جيل جديــد من الفنانين البصـريين المقيمين في مصـــر. تســـــتقبل النســـخة الأولى للورشـــة المصــممـــة من قِبَل قبلــة في الصحــراء، تســــتقبل حتى ١٤ مشــروعًا قـــائمًا على أشــــكال اكتشــــاف الذات من خـــلال الأفـــــــــــلام. فى الورشــــة سيطـــور المشـــاركين مشـــاريعهم عن طـــريـــق مشـــاركـة العمليـــة الإبداعيـــة لمرحــــلة مـا قبل الإنتاج مع صناع الأفــــلام المشــــــتركين فى الورشــــــة وبمعـــاونة فريقنــا. مع نهايـــة الورشــــــة، ستكوّن المشــــــاريع المشاركة ملفًا كاملًا - دوسيـــه (الملف المســتخـــدم للتقـــديم للمنح الإنتاجيــة) وسـيتــم اختيـــار مشـروعين لدعم إنتاجى من قُبلة فى الصحـــراء

Vice Versa
The Vice Versa workshop was designed to stimulate creative filmmaking and encourage a new generation of visual artists in Egypt. Developed by the collective A Kiss in the Desert, and supported by Mophradat, this first edition welcomes up to 14 projects focusing on different modes of self-exploration and autobiography through moving-image and film formats. During the workshop, the participants will develop their projects by sharing the creative process of pre-production with the other filmmakers and under the guidance of our consultants. By the end of the workshop, each project will have a complete dossier (commonly used to apply for film funds and grants), and two projects will be selected to be produced with the support of A Kiss in the Desert...
مهرجـــان القاهـــرة السينمـــائى، مســـابقة الأفــــــلام القصيـــــرة
مرة أخرى، تسعى قبلة فى الصحـــراء إلى تعاونـــات تهـــدف لخلـــق تجــارب سينمائية تجديديّة ووثيقة الصلة ببيئة العـرض فى آن. هذه المرة، تتعاون قبلـــة فى الصحـــراء مع مهرجـــان القاهـــرة السينمـــائى الدولى. أقيمـــت نسخـــة مهران القاهـــرة السينمـــائى الدولى الـ٤٣ فى الفترة من ٢٦ نوفمبر، وحتى ٥ ديســـمبر ٢٠٢١. آخذين أهميــة مهرجـــان القاهـــرة السينمـــائى الدولى فى الاعتبار، قررت قبلـــة فى الصحـــراء التى تولت اختيـــار الأفلام القصيرة، أن تختـــار لبرنامج للمسابقة الأفـــلام الحصرية على المســـتوى العالمى، ســواءًا كانت أفـــلامًا لم تعـــرض من قبل، أو أفـــلامًا عرضـــت فقـــط فى بلدها الأم. بهذه الخطـــوة، اتفقنا على الرفـــع من شأن المسابقة، وجعلها حدثًا متميزًا فى العالم السينمـــائى، لا منصة لعـــرض ما سبق عرضه فى مهرجـــانات أخرى
Cairo Int’l Film Festival – Short Film Competition
Once again, A Kiss in the Desert seeks collaborations to promote a relevant, yet provocative cinematic experience. This time with Cairo International Film Festival. The 43rd edition of the Cairo International Film Festival took place from the 26th of November to the 5th of December 2021. Given the historical importance of Cairo International Film Festival, A Kiss in the Desert, as the selection committee, has decided to narrow down the selection criteria by only considering the titles holding a world/international premiere status. By taking this direction, we agreed to make our program a unique event in the audiovisual world rather than functioning as a satellite of other major film festivals...
