Maqamāt is a monthly short film programme, curated by A Kiss in the Desert in collaboration with Zawya, the leading art house cinema in Cairo. Inspired by the Maqamāt, a concise literary format, with recurring characters adapting different roles, in a manner like that of a short film.
The short films curated each month share a theme, and are screened with English/Arabic subtitles; aiming to expand the short films viewership in Egypt. The programme was screened on February 28th, 2024, at Zaywa Arthouse Cinema.

At the turn of the century, a 9-year-old boy and his mother travel to the capital city to undergo a medical procedure.
2. Dear, Carolina Gonzalez, Colombia, 2008, 5’
In the 8th year of not being able to go back home, Carolina writes a letter. Dear, is a hope to create a space that reminds her of what she left behind and it is now dissolving in front of her eyes. She has waited for so long that she forgot what she was waiting for.
3. Recreation, Zanyar Azizi, Iran, 2021, 14’
A recreational talk between the father and his son who, for the first time, has the stage.
4. My Father, the Camera and I, Felipe Camargo, Brasil, 2020, 16’
The discovery of travel photographs will be the starting point for an audiovisual correspondence between father and son.
