Maqamāt is a monthly short film programme, curated by A Kiss in the Desert. The programme’s namesake is the Maqamat, a concise mediaeval literary format, with recurring characters adapting different roles in each Maqamah, in a manner similar to that of a short film.


The short films curated each month share a theme, and are screened with English/Arabic subtitles, aiming to expand the short films viewership in Egypt. The curated programmes are usually screened more than once: primarily in Cairo, and later in different venues nationwide. Maqamat programmes have been screened in venues like Zawya Arthouse Cinema, The Digital Expression Foundation (ADEF) in Cairo; and Wekalet Behna, Bibliotheca Alexandrina, and Anna Lindh Foundation in Alexandria.
